Singles Volunteering Holidating Match.com

With the lights hung and ornaments arranged, shoppers discover themselves at that point in the season where they’ve begun frantically hunting for gifts to place under trees. But what to buy?? The determination to find “The Perfect Present” certainly affects many whose holidays are deeply rooted in the tradition of gift-giving.

Singles aren’t immune to the seasonal chaos of overcrowded shopping mall parking lots. 45% look forward to giving gifts to others as their favorite holiday tradition, but might encounter a tricky tightrope when selecting just the right items. After only a few dates, most women are unlikely to expect a diamond tiara, and it might be a very lopsided exchange if she elects to give her partner a “glad-we’re-friends” card. Fortunately, there’s a great solution to avoiding this kind of mess while also celebrating the season of giving: donating to a charitable cause. Continue reading

Holiday Party

Singles! It is time to be the life of the party… the holiday party, that is. When we asked single men and women across the country to rate their favorite holiday traditions, going to holiday parties ranked high in the minds of singles. However, ask them to throw a holiday party? You’ll find no one on that list!

While being a guest was the best, hosting the holidays ranked last on the list of favorites. In fact, men were more pumped about parties than women! When it comes to a hankering for holiday soirées, our survey showed that 38% of men have fete fever, while only 24% of women are equally as enthusiastic about sharing a room with revelers. tis the season to be single

Unlike one of the most likable holiday movies, Love Actually, this season, singles are admitting that, it is NOT Love, Actually…it is more like the movie, The Breakup. While in 2012, 82% of singles say they were “nice over naughty,” nearly a quarter of singles (24%) admit to breaking up with someone over the holidays. Talk about getting Grinched! Continue reading

Romantic Holiday Season

Do you remember your first real kiss? I do. I was in High School. It was a late afternoon in December. Huge snowflakes were descending on New York City, the type that blankets the ground in glittering white. We walked through a local park, passed a tall evergreen wrapped in holiday lights, then sat on a snow-covered bench. She turned and smiled. One of those oversized snowflakes landed on her lip, and I leaned in to kiss her. It was exactly like a scene in a romantic movie. One of those super cheesy movies where one wants to groan and say “Ugh… Seriously?!”.

I think there is something about the holiday season that really does make things seem extra romantic. Perhaps that’s why 82% of Match.com members surveyed said the holidays make them feel more romantic than other times of the year. Maybe it’s all the cheer, festivities, gift giving, a new year and new beginnings, and for some parts of the country those cold snowy nights. All the ingredients for a holiday romance.
